Navigating the complexities of family court can be challenging and emotionally taxing, but settlement conferences offer a cost-effective and amicable alternative to traditional litigation. We understand the financial strain that legal proceedings can impose on families, which is why we offer some of our family court settlement conference phases as flat fees and others as pay-as-you-go services. These transparent and predictable pricing structures ensure that you can access professional support without the worry of escalating costs. Our goal is to provide high-quality assistance at a reasonable cost, making the settlement conference process accessible for all families.

What’s in the three phases of our settlement conference packages?

We break the settlement conference down into three phases. This allows those who might not need as much time in the second phase to save on their fees. The breakdown is as follows:

  • Opening Phase – Filing Court Documents: Our lawyers will help you to prepare, file and serve the court documents necessary to start the court proceedings.
  • Mid Phase Work: This phase includes any work not covered in the opening or closing phase and may vary depending on individual circumstances.
  • Final Phase – Settlement Conference: Our lawyers will prepare your brief and attend one settlement conference (if necessary) with you.

Breaking Down

Court Settlement Conferences

The Opening Phase of the court settlement conference flat fee includes preparing the initiating court documents and filing them with the court. The opposing party will be served with the court documents and this will conclude the first phase.

Mid Phase work covers such areas as:
Review Opposing Party’s Materials: Meeting with the lawyer to review the materials received from the opposing party/counsel. This may include drafting a response on your behalf
Additional Disclosures: It is possible that further disclosures may be required by yourself or the other party before you can proceed to a settlement conference.
Offer to Settle: Meeting with the lawyer to prepare an offer to settle the matter prior to proceeding to the settlement conference.
Negotiations: Discussions with opposing counsel related to resolution of outstanding matters including matters related to requisite disclosure of assets and debts.
Affidavits: Any work related to the preparation of affidavits
Motions: Any work associated in motions (interim hearings); and
Orders: Any work associated with the drafting of the court order resulting from the settlement conference.
Preparation of Materials: Before documents can be filed with the court, at least three copies must be made and some may need to be bound. If you wish the firm to prepare these packages on your behalf outside of appointment time, it will be billed at the hourly rate.
-These services end when a consent order is agreed to by the parties or the matter moves to the Final Phase: Settlement Conference.

The Final Phase of the court settlement conference flat fee includes attendance at one half day Judicial Settlement Conference. It does not include travel time to the Settlement Conference, should that be required. The Final Phase is finished upon the completion of the Settlement Conference.  If further scheduling briefs/conferences are required, further work will be billed at the lawyer’s regular hourly rate.

Many thanks to Shawn Scott at Brookshire as well as the articling clerk Christina. Doing up my separation agreement was as enjoyable of an experience as it could possibly be given circumstances. Shawn is thoughtful and thorough and definitely not just out to make a buck. I felt very comfortable and like I was in good hands. I was never rushed, in fact the opposite- I would sometimes point out we were over time a bit but it was never an issue. We all shared a few laughs even. Every staff member I encountered was lovely. Would use again for other legal needs and would definitely recommend. Thank you.

Shawn and Christina, are extremely knowledgeable, professional, and very efficient. They have helped me so much in less than 2 weeks, than any other lawyer has in years. Highly recommend both Shawn, Christina, and Brookshire Law Office!

Words can't express the gratitude I have for this Law Firm, especially for Mr. Scott and Ms. Frith! Both are well versed and their level of dedication to help resolve issues in a professional manner are impeccable. They walked me through the process of a complicated divorce and I felt very supported every step of the way. I felt like they went above and beyond ensuring I was informed and prepared for court. The receptionist at the front desk was always attentive and friendly, as well. If you are debating hiring this Firm - you won't be disappointed. Thank you Brookshire Law Firm for everything you did for me and my family!

We'd Love to Hear
