He then obtained his Master’s Degree in Religious Studies at McGill University (1988). He went on to receive his law degree (Juris Doctor) from Queen’s University (1995). He was grateful to have the opportunity to return home to Nova Scotia. He completed his Articles with Kim Richardson, Richardson’s Law Office, and was called to the bar in November 1996.
Shawn has extensive experience in business development and in the practice of law. He first practiced with Richardson’s Law Office (1996-1997). In his spare time, Shawn plays guitar and banjo in the county band, The Wheelers. The Wheelers band members are a collection of lawyers from Brookshire Law Office, Teryl Scott Lawyers Inc, and Richardson’s Law Office–Shawn’s mother also joined the band and plays the piano. They began volunteering to perform in local nursing homes when Shawn’s father was admitted to White Hills Nursing Home with cardiovascular dementia. Shawn is also a history buff and is working on a book about Nova Scotia history in the 1700s.
He has published an article in the Royal Nova Scotia Historical Society entitled “Noel Doiron and the East Hants Acadians” (2012). Along with his brother, Tod Scott, he developed a history series entitled “The Heroes of Hants County” to promote tourism–their father’s birthplace–which is on display at the Burntcoat Provincial Park in Hants County. He had a film short shown at the Atlantic Film Festival entitled “The Mariner of Minasville” on a child soldier from Hants County that fought in the American Civil War (2005).
